Icebreakers

It can be a good idea to use icebreakers at the beginning of Workshops to help to relax the participants. The exercises we use succeed on four levels: they are quick and easy to do; they reassure individuals that they will not be ‘shown up’ as no one is forced to join in with calling out answers; they demonstrate there are no wrong answers; and they highlight the importance of humour within a session. In most sessions, participants will have begun to laugh within the first 10 seconds or so. Participants will begin to become aware of the creativity within the group, but will also realise that their own answers, whatever they were, were just as ‘right’ as anyone else’s.
